**7 ROUND MOCK DRAFT** Update 4/28/11

**ROUND 1

1.Carolina Panthers - Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

It looks like a QB will go #1 overall.  The new CBA will bring down the guaranteed money from 50mil. To 15-20mill. This will allow teams in the 1st round to take risks    on players, especially QB’s even if they’re not deserving.  Rule #1:  If you don’t have a Franchise QB…get one.  Jimmy Clausen is not a franchise QB.  A true boom or bust prospect and after seeing him with Coach Gruden he’s going to need to learn A LOT of QB terminology . Marcell Dareus seems to be the only other option.

2. Denver Broncos - Marcell Dareus, DT/DE, Alabama

With Denver moving back to the 4-3, Fox has to consider Dareus with this pick, DE/DT Marcell Dareus can line up and dominate in any scheme.  With the Broncos DE’s coming back healthy, I expect a DT here and Dareus is a beast and gets the edge over Nick Fairley.  This is the perfect combo of need meets value

3.Buffalo Bills - Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M

Aaron Maybin is a bust at the 3-4 OLB so the bills go safe with the best pass-rushing LB in the draft.  Bills staff coached him at the senior bowl and seem to have fallen in love.  If somehow Cam Newton is here he will be the pick.

4.Cincinnati Bengals - AJ Green, WR, Georgia

TO is gone and If the Bengals get rid of Chad Johnson, this pick will be easy. WR A.J. Green is the  #1 WR prospect just over Julio Jones.  I like the Bengals young DE’s Dunlup(Florida) and M. Johnson(GT) so I don’t see them going DE(Quinn) and they could look at CB Peterson .  I don’t know what’s going on with Carson Palmer so they have to take a look at Blaine Gabbert or wait till round 2 to get their QB(they want Andy Dalton and may trade back into round 1 to get him).

5.Arizona Cardinals - Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

Most mocks have Blaine Gabbert here but I don’t see it happening.  Larry Fitz doesn’t want a rookie QB and the Cards have young QB’s on the roster.  I expect them to go hard after Kolb or McNabb.  Patrick Peterson is the best overall player in the draft and is similar to D. Revis when he came out of Pitt.

6. Cleveland Browns - Robert Quinn, DE/OLB, North Carolina

I think Robert Quinn has the talent to go #1 overall but was ineligible for the 2010 season so he drops a little.  An impact DE sack artist from day one.  There are rumblings that this will now be the landing spot for Julio Jones as Colt McCoy needs a true #1 WR.  I still think they go with Quinn and in 5 years he may be the best player to come out of this draft.

7. San Francisco 49ers - Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

New regimes mean new quarterbacks. Jim’s brother John Harbaugh took Flaco in the first round of his first draft, and Jim may do the same. Gabbert is a smart player with great leadership qualities. He could be a great fit running Harbaugh's offense in San Francisco.

8. Tennessee Titans - Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

Nick Fairley had a much-needed great Pro Day to boost his draft stock after a mediocre Combine. Fairley's footwork and athleticism were extremely impressive, so I can't see him sliding past the Titans. And if there's one team in the 6-10 range that will ignore Fairley's maturity and work ethic issues, it's Tennessee. Tennessee's new defensive line coach, Tracy Rocker, coached Fairley at Auburn and should give the stamp of approval

9. Dallas Cowboys - Tyron Smith, OT, USC

Jerry Jones has never taken an offensive lineman in the first round. I think there's a good chance that trend ends this year.  Smith was a RT at USC and can step right in at RT for the Cowboys and let Doug Free stay at LT.  Options include CB Prince Amukamara or a 3-4 DE like JJ Watt.

10. Washington Redskins - Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

The Skins need a true #1 WR and Juilo Jones is the total package.  If Jones goes to the Browns then Robert Quinn goes here and makes a scary front with Brian Orakpo.  This could be the spot the rams trade up to a grab Jones so the Redskins can get more picks to fill several holes on both sides of the line

11. Houston Texans - Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

I know the Texans spent a 1st round pick on a CB last year but they still had the worst pass defense in the NFL so this is a need pick.  They are switching to the 3-4 Defense so an OLB like Aldon Smith is a strong possibility or a DE like Cam Jordan

12. Minnesota Vikings – Jake Locker, QB, Washington

Now things get interesting, there are just too many rumors about Locker and the Vikes for this not to be the pick.  If CB Prince Amukamara is on the board they can take him and then trade back into the 1st to grab Locker.  Another option that I like is taking Bowers here and then taking Colin Kaepernick QB, Nevada in round 2.  I just don’t think it’s going to happen.  For Vikings fans I hope the rumors about McNabb are wrong.

13. Detroit Lions - Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson

The Lions biggest need is CB and they want Prince but he’s gone and it’s too early for CB Jimmy Smith.  Mocks now have Bowers falling to the 20’s, I don’t see it happening even with the questions about his knee.  But Bowers on the same line with Suh and you’re in business.  There will be a good CB available in round 2.  Other option if they don’t like Bowers would be BC LT Anthony Castonzo.

14. St. Louis Rams - Aldon Smith, DE/OLB, Missouri

The Rams really need a #1 WR to help out Bradford but they will need to trade up for Julio Jones.  Steve Spagnuolo likes to collect pass-rushers from his Giants days and Smith is rising up draft boards

15. Miami Dolphins - Mike Pouncey, OG/OC, Florida

I've had Mark Ingram slotted here all year. But teams are now apparently scared of Ingram's potentially arthritic knee. This could cause him to slip.  Pouncey is not his brother and was just bad as a center last year at Florida but I think he can be a day one starter at Left Guard and the Fins need interior line help.  The Dolfins don’t have a 2nd round pick so maybe they trade this pick to a team looking to move up for a QB or a DE that slides

16. Jacksonville Jaguars - Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

Ryan Kerrigan is the type of player that general manager Gene Smith looks for. He was in school for four years. He was a 3-year starter. He was an Academic All-America. He has a non-stop motor and a blue-collar attitude. He was a team captain with no character concerns.

17. New England Patriots (Oakland) - JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin

The Pats are going to reload with all these picks.  They are looking for a 3-4 DE to replace Richard Seymore, enter JJ Watt who knows how to get after the QB which is just what the Pats are looking for.  They also need a 3-4 OLB and some O-line help but JJ Watt is a good start to the draft where they have 7 of the top 100 picks. Local product Boston College Left Tackle Anthony Castonzo also makes sense

18. San Diego Chargers - Cameron Jordan, DE, California
Cameron Jordan is arguably the best talent available. Jordan had an incredible season with 12.5 TFL and 5.5 sacks. He had a great Combine and was unblockable during the Senior Bowl practices.  Other options include a RT or OLB

19. New York Giants - Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College

Castonzo is the most pro ready OT and can play LT or RT.  This will allow David Deihl to side over to LG and improve the entire O-Line.  The Giants really need a LineBacker but this is too early for Akeem Ayers, LB, UCLA.  There are rumors of Bama RB Mark Ingram or Florida G/C Mike Pouncey.

20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

The Bucs got there 2 DT’s in last year’s draft with G. McCoy and Brian Price now they need a DE to get after the QB.  Clayborn has top 5 talent but had a down year.  He’s a steal at pick 20.

21. Kansas City Chiefs - Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor

Pioli needs his Vince Wilfork and that’s Phil Taylor are true space eater.  A foot problem has recently come up about Taylor if they go in another direction I expect it to be RT Gabe Carimi

22. Indianapolis Colts - Nate Solder, OT, Colorado

You just need to protect Peyton Manning.  Solder is a former tight end with great feet but needs some time to develop but his ceiling is through the roof.

23. Philadelphia Eagles - Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin

RT and CB are the two big needs and with the left handed Vick they need a RT.  Carimi plays with a mean streak and just beats up DE’s.  He’s an Andy Reid type of player and you can just pencil him in at RT for the next 8 years and feel good about it.  It’s Carimi or CB Jimmy Smith.

24. New Orleans Saints - Corey Liuget, DT, Illinois

A penetrating DT to pair with former 1st round pick Sed Ellis to help the run Defense.  He can get after the QB and is stout against the run.  Great value here

25. Seattle Seahawks - Muhammad Wilkerson, DE/DT, Temple

Muhammad Wilkerson is a great fit for Seattle's defense. Brandon Mebane is a free agent, so Wilkerson could fill those shoes if Mebane defects for another team.

26. Baltimore Ravens - Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado

Baltimore needs corner help. Three of the team's top four cornerbacks - Chris Carr, Josh Wilson and Fabian Washington - are all free agents this offseason.  Character concerns drop Smith a little but there is not a better organization for him to go to be a success.  It should be noted that Brian Baldinger (NFL network) said on Path to the Draft, "I know for a fact that if Cameron Heyward's there at 26, the Ravens are not passing him up." A couple of days later, beat writer Jamison Hensley mocked Heyward to the Ravens.  Heyward is still on the board here I just think Ozzie has to have Jimmy Smith rated higher.  The Ravens also seem to be interested in Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi St.

27. Atlanta Falcons - Brooks Reed, DE/OLB, Arizona
Atlanta likes defensive ends who can drop into coverage and Reed is able to play OLB and has that athletic ability.  The Falcons need someone opposite Abraham.  TE Kyle Rudolph is a possibility or a LT or WR like Torrey Smith.

28. New England Patriots - Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama

Rumor has it this pick will be traded to a team looking to trade up from the 2nd round to get a QB like Dalton/Ponder/Mallett.  If they keep this pick I think the Pats go with a true #1 do it all RB like Ingram.  They may take a rush outside linebacker here like Arizona’s Brooks Reed

29. Chicago Bears - Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi St.

The #1 priority has to be keeping Jay Cutler healthy.  The Bears led the NFL in sacks allowed (60) in 2010.  Sherrod is great value here and a true LT.  I am hearing North Carolina’s DT Marvin Austin may go in this spot if all the 1st round Tackles are off the board

30. New York Jets - Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio St.

I know Jets fans “not another DE from Ohio St.) but the son of former Saints running back Craig “Iron Head” Heyward is the real deal and is a perfect fit in Rex Ryan’s Defense.  Other option include a DT like Phil Taylor to replace Kris Jenkings or a 3-4 rush OLB like Akeem Ayers.  Long shot pick is Pitt. WR Jon Baldwin.

31. Pittsburgh Steelers - Aaron Williams, CB, Texas

The best player who makes sense for the Steelers is Aaron Williams. Williams is a better fit for Pittsburgh's defense than Brandon Harris, and he can play free safety in addition to cornerback. So, if he fails at corner, he could always replace Ryan Clark down the road.  They may want to reunite the Pouncey brothers but I don’t see him lasting this long.  They do need to upgrade the OG and Tackle position

32. Green Bay Packers – Akeem Ayers, OLB, UCLA

Akeem Ayers is a talented outside linebacker who would play OLB in the Packers 3-4 he also has the ability to play SAM LB 4-3 scheme. A Tackle or WR could also be considered here.
