ROUND ONE

1. Houston Texans: Blake Bortles QB, UCF

At 6’4, 230lbs Bortles has the size and athletic ability you want in your Franchise QB.  Some scouts have gone as far to call him “Andrew Luck-Lite” and a “Ben Roethlisberger clone”, I’m not there yet but he’s an intriguing prospect and is quickly rising up draft boards. More tape shows he’s terribly inconsistent with accuracy and footwork issues, I think he needs more time.  Also, I’m not seeing anything more than average arm strength.

Team Needs: Franchise QB, RT, ILB, S, and CB

The Texans will be deciding between 3 QB’s: Bridgewater, Bortles and Manziel.  The other option would be Jadeveon Clowney here and a QB at the top of Round 2.

2. Atlanta Falcons: Jadeveon Clowney DE, South Carolina

The 6’6, 270lb Defensive End is a freakish athlete with unlimited upside.  He compares favorably to a combination of pro bowl DE’s Julius Peppers and Robert Quinn.  I don’t care that his stats were down in 2013, all I’m doing is projecting his game to the next level and he has a great future.  It seems pretty clear that he was just protecting himself from injury, which is understandable considering what former teammate RB Marcus Lattimore went through last year.  His size/speed/power can’t be denied and he should be a double digit sack machine as soon as he enters the NFL. 

Team Needs: DE/OLB, OT/OG, TE

The Falcons will look to address the Offensive and Defensive Line early and often in the draft.

 

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Teddy Bridgewater QB, Louisville

Teddy Bridgewater is my #1 QB prospect and has everything you look for in a franchise QB.  At 6’3, 200lbs he is a little light but I have no doubt he can put on 10-15lbs during the draft process to settle down his critics.  A strong, accurate passer who excels at keeping his cool in the pocket and throwing on the run when pressure forces him outside.  Great vision and touch to go along with his leadership and command in the huddle.

Team Needs: Franchise QB, DE, RT, CB, LB

In Round 1 expect the Jags to draft their Franchise QB or Jadeveon Clowney.

4. Cleveland Browns: Johnny Manziel QB, Texas A&M

I’ll list Johnny Football at 6’0, 200lbs. his true numbers will come out at the combine.  Last year I had him pegged as an upside 3^rd round pick but this year I’ve seen increased arm strength and improved accuracy which puts him right in the mix as a top 10 pick.  I don’t see the Drew Brees comparisons, just because he’s short doesn’t mean he plays like all other short QB’s.  To me, his play most resembles a better Tony Romo with all the scrambling and ability to make positive plays when it seems everything has broken down, the big difference is that he has the “IT” factor and just finds a way to win.  The big question is how teams will evaluate his personality, ability to lead a franchise and off the field question marks.  He’s simply a playmaker and his skills on the field can’t be denied.  *The Godfather Gil Brandt ranks Johnny Football as the #1 Prospect in the entire draft.  How awesome is Gil Brandt?  Honestly, Gil is just tremendous even if you don’t agree with him you have to respect the Godfather.

Team Needs: Franchise QB, RB, WR, OG, nickel CB

With two first Round picks the Browns should take their future QB with one of the picks.

5. Oakland Raiders: Sammy Watkins WR, Clemson

A true #1 WR option at 6’1, 180lbs.  He’s a threat to score from anywhere on the field with great speed and run after the catch ability to go along with great hands.  Although he’s a little smaller he looks similar to Larry Fitzgerald coming out of Pitt.

Team Needs: Franchise QB, DE, WR, CB, OT, RB

The Raiders can go so many ways with this pick: Top QB, O-Line/D-Line or best player available like Sammy Watkins

 

*TRADE* Rams Trade #2 pick to Falcons for Pick #6 and 2015 2^nd and 3^rd Round Pick

 

6. St. Louis Rams (via Washington): Greg Robinson OT, Auburn

*Now could go as high as the #2 pick.  Only a redshirt sophomore, the 6’5, 320lb O-Tackle is everything you look for in a franchise Left Tackle.  He has quick feet and surprising athleticism for such a big guy.  Already an elite run blocker in Auburn’s offense, his pass protection skills are not far behind.  I would be shocked if such an upside prospect last past the top 12 picks.

Team Needs: OT, S, WR, CB, maybe QB

(*Trade down alert*)  Rams #2 pick is for sale (To Falcons for Clowney), maybe they can move down and still pick LT Jake Matthews/Greg Robinson or they can pick DE Clowney even though they have DE’s Robert Quinn/Chris Long.  WR Sammy Watkins would look good here too.

 

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Kony Ealy DE/OLB, Missouri

I seem to be higher on the 6’5, 275lb DE/OLB than most; he’s a matchup nightmare with his size/speed combo and ability to line up anywhere on the D-Line and attack the QB.  Long and versatile, Ealy has played DE/OLB and even DT.  I would take him as high as the Falcons/Bucs pick in round one.

Team Needs: DE/OLB, O-Line, TE, and another DT to pair with McCoy

8. Minnesota Vikings: Derek Carr QB, Fresno State

The brother of former #1 pick David Carr, Derek Carr stands 6’2, 215lbs with a huge arm and athletic ability.  Some people seem to think Carr is simply a system QB only capable of throwing quick slants out of the shotgun; those people would be wrong and are letting his last name cloud their judgment.  He has the arm to make every throw and the confidence to sneak it into tight windows.  He does have issues with footwork and changing his arm angles (sidearm) when under pressure, it appears he simply trust his arm strength in any situation which leads to interceptions.  For a comparison, Jay Cutler would work.   *Stock is on the decline after a rough bowl game and more film study; I might have him too high given the real problems he has when under extreme pressure.  Maybe late round 1/early round 2 will be his final landing spot.  *9’ 1/8 Hands – smaller than you want. *Senior Bowl update: Clearly the top QB in Mobile, showing off his big arm compared to the competition

Team Needs: Franchise QB, DE, OG, and another S to pair with Smith

9. Buffalo Bills: Khalil Mack OLB, Buffalo

The 6’3, 240lb Mack has jumped Anthony Barr in the ranks.  A former Hoops player, who only played one season of football in high school, he received few offers at the D1 level.  Buffalo was happy to have him and used him all over the field to get after the QB.  He can line up anywhere but again his best fit as an OLB in the 3-4 but will be just fine as a 4-3 SAM LB who rushes the passer and can slide down to DE.

Team Needs: OT/OG, OLB, S, and WR (to go along with Johnson/Woods)

 

10. Detroit Lions: Justin Gilbert CB, Oklahoma State

The 6’1, 195lb corner has ideal size for today’s NFL.  He had a down year last year but turned everything around with a dominate 2013 campaign.  He’s the total package at corner with great size, good speed and great ball skills.  Could be the first CB of the board come draft day and can help out in the return game.

Team Needs: CB, #2 WR, S, OG/OC *( A WR like Evans or Lee might be better value here but WR’s are deeper than top end CB’s this year)

 

11. Tennessee Titans: Jake Matthews OT, Texas A&M

At 6’5, 305lbs, Matthews is the fighting off Greg Robinson to be the #1 offensive tackle selected in a talented class (less now with players returning).  He excels as a pass protector with experience as a right and left tackle, his future is at left tackle.  With NFL bloodlines, he has been around the game his entire life and carries himself like a pro.  He’s the safest pick in the draft but lacks the upside of LT Greg Robinson.

Team Needs: CB (if Verner leaves), DE/OLB/Pass-Rush, Future OT’s, RB (if CJ gets cut), and QB

 

12. New York Giants: Anthony Barr OLB, UCLA

A gifted pass-rusher at 6’4, 245lbs, he has made the switch from FB/RB to elite rush linebacker.  Barr is capable of playing in any scheme but his best fit as a 3-4 OLB.  If he goes to a 4-3 team he would play 4-3 SAM LB and be used like Von Miller.  Tremendous upside

Team Needs: OG/OC, OT (if they move Justin Pugh to OG), CB, OLB, RB, WR, TE, and DT

 

13. St. Louis Rams: Haha Clinton-Dix FS, Alabama

Dix is the #1 safety prospect and is trying to fight off FS Calvin Pryor to be the first Safety selected.  The free safety has the speed to keep up with WR’s and the size to lay out any TE that chooses to cross his path.

Team Needs: OT, S, WR, CB

14. Chicago Bears: Ra’Shede Hageman DT, Minnesota

This monster is 6’6, 310lbs with a rare size/speed/power resume and one of the best prospects in the draft at any position.  Reminds me of former Jags DT John Henderson with some Ed “Too Tall” Jones thrown in, big time upside and should move up the draft board.  Another guy I’m higher on than most, but I just love the upside and athletic ability.  He started out as a TE, then moved to DE and finally found a home at DT.  The knocks are he plays too high and doesn’t use great leverage, these are correctable and when they are he’ll be a real nightmare to scheme against.

Team Needs: DT, CB, S, OG, DE, LB (depth)

15. Pittsburgh Steelers: Louis Nix III NT/DT, Notre Dame

The Vince Wilfork clone stands 6’2, 340lbs.  He can play in any defensive front as either a NT or DT.  Surprising agility for a guy of his body type, he does more than just occupy blockers and stuff the run as he can get to the QB with his power moves.  Must prove he’s %100 healthy after missing time this year.

Team Needs: OT, CB, S, Youth on the DL

 

16. Dallas Cowboys: Timmy Jernigan DT, Florida State

A bit undersized at 6’2, 298lbs for a 3 technique.  But, that doesn’t stop him from being a dominant force inside using great leverage and quickness to beat bigger centers and guards.

Team Needs: All levels on Defense, DT, DE, CB, S

 

17. Baltimore Ravens: Mike Evans WR, Texas A&M

The jacked 6’5, 225lb WR is a Vincent Jackson clone with the jump ball ability of an Alshon Jeffery.  So I’m very high on his potential as a pro with his size mismatch against any DB and his yard after catch power.  Love his whole game.

Team Needs: OT, WR, CB

 

18. New York Jets: Marqise Lee WR, USC

The 6’0, 190 lb. wide receiver has game breaking speed to go along with polished route running.  Injuries have derailed the last two years to go along with poor QB play and quite a few drops.  When healthy, he’s a true game breaker.

Team Needs: Offensive playmakers, WR, TE, OG, OLB, S/CB, RB

 

19. Miami Dolphins: Taylor Lewan OT, Michigan

Lewan is a giant at 6’7, 305lbs and compares favorably to former Michigan #1 pick Jake Long.  An elite run blocker right now and his pass protection skills have improved.  He’s really a mauler with a mean streak (off the field as well?).  He may not have the upside of the younger more athletic LT prospects in this O-Tackle draft but he’s a day one starter on the left side.

Team Needs: OT/OG, DT, CB

20. Arizona Cardinals: Cyrus Kouandjio OT, Alabama

The 6’5, 310lb Bama Left Tackle has tremendous strength and athleticism and continues to get better with every snap.  He has as much upside as any O-Lineman in the draft with a strong punch and improving footwork. Struggled in his bowl game, getting caught lunging and off balance.  He could start off at Right Tackle in the NFL but his future is at Left Tackle.

Team Needs: OT, OLB/DE, Future QB

21. Green Bay Packers: C.J. Mosley LB, Alabama

A top ten talent who may fall a bit due to his position.  The 6’2, 230lb linebacker can do it all as an inside linebacker or weak side in a 4-3 Defense.  What sets him apart is his ability to cover receivers; he has great speed, technique, and instincts as the leader of the Alabama Defense.  His skill set translates nicely to the next level and is scheme diverse.

Team Needs: O-Line, TE, CB/S, LB, D-Line

 

22. Philadelphia Eagles: Darqueze Dennard CB, Michigan State

Dennard is fighting off contenders (Justin Gilbert) to be the first CB off the board.  The 5’11, 185lb corner is physical and battle tested.  He excels in man coverage and fights for position on every play, the mindset of a linebacker in a corners body is a huge benefit while going against the monster WR’s at the next level.

Team Needs: 2 CB’s, S, OLB, #2 WR

 

23. Kansas City Chiefs: Eric Ebron TE, North Carolina

The new era of athletic, pass catching Tight Ends continues with the 6’4, 245lb Eric Ebron.  He plays and lines up like an oversized WR and that’s a good thing for today’s NFL as he’s a matchup nightmare who can’t be covered by slower LB’s or smaller CB’s. 

Team Needs: WR, TE, DE, ILB

 

24. Cincinnati Bengals: Bradley Roby CB, Ohio State

After the 2012 season I thought for sure Roby would be a top 10 pick and the first CB off the board.  Some off the field trouble and an up and down 2013 will push him down a bit but he clearly has first round potential and has shown the ability to be a lock down #1 corner.  Good size at 5’11, 185lbs.

Team Needs: youth at CB, S, OLB, youth OL

Biggest need is adding youth/depth to the secondary but CB/S value may be better in rounds 2 and 3.

 

25. San Diego Chargers: Zack Martin OT/OG, Notre Dame

The 6’4, 300lb Martin has been holding down Left Tackle for the Irish but it’s his versatility is what makes him so valuable.  People want to move him inside to guard but I see the feet of a Left Tackle with improved teaching at the next level.  He can start day one at guard or right tackle and build on his tools to be a future left tackle.

Team Needs: Pass-rush, OLB, 2 CB’s, O-Line

 

26. Cleveland Browns (via Indianapolis): Kelvin Benjamin WR, Florida State

The redshirt sophomore is an absolute Beast at 6’6, 235lbs.  He is truly fun to watch and has become must see TV anytime he has the ball in his hands.  He doesn’t run, he glides and with his long strides it looks like every step is 5 yards.  He’s faced top NFL corner prospects and they simply can’t cover him, it’s really not fair.  Can you tell I’m a fan?

Team Needs: Franchise QB, RB, WR, OG, nickel CB

 

27. New Orleans Saints: Kyle Van Noy DE/OLB, BYU

At 6’3, 235lbs Kyle Van Noy will excel as a 3-4 OLB pass rusher or 4-3 DE.  Quick first step off the snap with great pass rush moves, he terrorizes the quarterback and actually has solid pass coverage skills.

Team Needs: O-Line, OLB, CB, WR

 

28. Carolina Panthers: Jordan Matthews WR, Vanderbilt

Ideal size at 6’3, 200lbs with great hands but average speed.  He’s polished and ready to contribute right out of the gate.  He won’t post gaudy Combine numbers but his game speed is there.

Team Needs: Future #1 WR, CB, OT/OG, S

29. New England Patriots: Jace Amaro TE, Texas Tech

The 6’5, 260lb TE is a Mini-Gronk.  A huge target and matchup nightmare, he has great hands/size/speed proven by the fact that he just broke the single season record for most receiving yards by a Tight End in NCAA history.  He’s a great athlete and moves well for a man his size. 

Team Needs: TE, O-Line, D-Line, CB

 

30. San Francisco 49ers: Odell Beckham, Jr. WR, LSU

Game breaking, speed WR who could push himself into the late 1^st Round.  6’0, 185lbs, a threat to score on every play.

Team Needs: WR, CB, and youth on D-Line

 

31. Denver Broncos: Stephon Tuitt DE/DT, Notre Dame

The 6’6, 320lb Tuitt can play anywhere on the D-Line in any scheme.  Playing a lot like former Georgia Bulldog Richard Seymour, He can play 5 technique in the 3-4 or DE and DT in the 4-3.  If his weight is down and he’s 100% healthy he should be a top 15 pick.  He’s the total package with size/power and a quick burst of the line.

Team Needs: Interior O-Line, D-Line, CB

32. Seattle Seahawks: Aaron Donald DT, Pittsburgh

Bengals DT Geno Atkins comparisons are legit.  Moving up, could go as early as mid-1^st round now.  6’1, 290lbs.  Undersized but a big time talent with production too match.  Dominant at the Senior Bowl, beats guards and centers with speed/leverage and surprising power.  Great leverage/hands. 

Team Needs: OT/OG, youth D-Line, WR, TE

 

 

ROUND TWO

33. Houston Texans: Antonio “Tiny” Richardson OT, Tennessee

“Tiny” Richardson goes 6’6, 330lbs and has held down the Left Tackle spot for two years.  With his size/athletic ability he has tremendous upside but needs some improvement in hand placement and footwork to become the true Franchise Left Tackle.

34. Washington Redskins: Calvin Pryor FS, Louisville

He’s going in the 1^st Round, just need to find the right spot for him.  First Round talent and the clear #2 Safety, A big hitting 6’2, 205lb with a complete skill set.  Pryor can cover anyone at every level of the secondary.

Team Needs: O-Line/D-Line, CB/S, ILB

35. Cleveland Browns: Carlos Hyde RB, Ohio State

Hyde is my #1 RB this year, a big back at 6’0, 240lbs who can do it all.  Power, good speed for his size, pass protection and can catch out of the backfield.

36. Oakland Raiders: Zach Mettenberger QB, LSU

Much improved in all areas, great size (6’5, 235lbs), classic drop back/pocket QB.  Knee injury might knock him down the draft but incredible upside.

37. Atlanta Falcons: Morgan Moses OT, Virginia

A giant 6’6, 320lb Left Tackle prospect who’s moving into the 1^st round discussion.  Virginia continues to pump out great OT prospects.

38. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE, Washington

One of the three Elite TE’s in the class. 6’6, 255lbs, a gifted athlete and pass catcher who can block,

39. Jacksonville Jaguars: Dee Ford DE/OLB, Auburn

1^st, 2^rd Round.  Elite pass rusher, Put on a show at the Senior Bowl.  He could good go top 25 now.

 

40. Minnesota Vikings: Scott Crichton DE/OLB, Oregon State

1^st round talent at 6’3” 265lbs. Crichton’s best fit is as a 4-3 DE but he is scheme diverse and could play OLB or 5 technique in a 3-4.  Great power moves when attacking the QB, needs to expand his finesse moves at the next level.

41. Buffalo Bills: David Yankey OG/RT, Stanford

Battling to be the 1^st guard off the board.  1^st round talent at 6’5, 300lbs, athletic for his size and versatile who can play guard and tackle.

 

42. Tennessee Titans: Tre Mason RB, Auburn

Complete 3 down RB, starter from day one. 5’10, 200lbs with speed.  The Godfather Gil Brandt has him as the best RB in the class.

43. New York Giants: Xavier Su’a-Filo OG, UCLA

Top 5 Guard prospect. 6’3, 305lbs.  Could go in the 1^st Round as the first true Guard selected.

44. St. Louis Rams: DaVante Adams WR, Fresno State

1^st round talent, Michael Crabtree clone.

 

45. Detroit Lions: Jarvis Landry WR, LSU

Potential to be a #1 WR, good size/speed.

46. Pittsburgh Steelers: Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida

Solid man cover corner, disciplined with good technique.  Needs more fire as he avoids contact.  Great size at 6’0, 185lbs, he could go late first round.

47. Dallas Cowboys: Cyril Richardson OG, Baylor

A powerful 6’5, 330lbs who can also move, will be in high demand as the possible #1 true Guard in the class.  Had a rough Senior Bowl and his stock is down, still worth a second round pick.

48. Baltimore Ravens: Ka’Deem Carey RB, Arizona

Could be the #1 RB in this year’s draft class.  5’10, 200lbs, great vision and explosive.  Can catch the ball and pass protect.

49. New York Jets: Allen Robinson WR, Penn State

The 6’3, 210lb WR is a big, physical receiver who’s impressive going over the middle with ability to gain yards after the catch.  Top flight speed is not his game, compares favorably to Anquan Boldin when he was at Florida State.

50. Miami Dolphins: Louchiez Purifoy CB, Florida

Big CB (6’1, 190lbs) who loves to gamble, fiery competitor.  Gets caught out of position or burned while going all out for picks.  Elite athletic ability to go along with NFL size/speed and looks for contact.

 
51. Chicago Bears: Trent Murphy DE/OLB, Stanford

Plays like Ryan Kerrigan, gifted pass rusher at 6’5, 260lbs.  Powerful/violent hands help beat more athletic blockers.  Limited athleticism showcased at the Senior Bowl, stock down a bit.

52. Arizona Cardinals: A.J. McCarron QB, Alabama

Good size and purely a pocket QB.  His tools are not remarkable, needs talent around him for success.

53. Green Bay Packers: Dominique Easley DE/DT, Florida

Top 10 pick if he’s healthy.  Elite first step off the line, can win with speed and power.  Missed season due to injury.

54. Philadelphia Eagles: Jeremiah Attaochu DE/OLB, Georgia Tech

Can rush the passer, didn’t show well at the Senior Bowl as he was moved around too much and not allowed to play DE and rush the QB.

55. Cincinnati Bengals: Ryan Shazier OLB Ohio State

6’2, 225lb pure speed LB in the mold of Bucs Lavonte David.  Best fit would be as a 4-3 Will backer but creative D-Coordinator will find a spot for him in any scheme.

56. San Francisco 49ers (via Kansas City): Marcus Smith DE/OLB, Louisville 

2^nd Round

57. San Diego Chargers: Jason Verrett CB, TCU

1^st Round Talent.  An undersized CB (5’10, 175lbs) with maybe the best skill set at his position, I have to think his size pushes him down the draft.

58. New Orleans Saints: Deone Bucannon S, Washington State

Big hitting safety

59. Indianapolis Colts: Brandin Cooks WR, Oregon State

Smaller WR but battles and very impressive in the red zone.  Similar to Panthers Steve Smith.

Team Needs: O-Line/D-Line, CB/S, WR

60. Carolina Panthers: Kyle Fuller CB, Virginia Tech

6’0, 195lbs.  Up and down season, flashes shutdown CB traits at times, inconsistent.

61. San Francisco 49ers: Stanley Jean-Baptiste CB, Nebraska

Huge at 6’2, 215lbs.  A big former WR, still learning the CB position.  Big time upside with coaching to improve technique.  The new Legion of Boom type CB.

62. New England Patriots: Will Sutton DT, Arizona State

Undersized DT but great tape, how far will he drop due to size?  6’0, 315lbs, he’s short with short arms and the added 15 pounds is not good weight.

63. Denver Broncos: Terrance Mitchell CB, Oregon

Overshadowed at Oregon as the #2 CB but solid all around.

64. Seattle Seahawks: Jack Mewhort T/G, Ohio State

Looks like he will move inside to Guard or RT.

 

 

ROUND THREE

65. Houston Texans: Jimmy Ward SS, Northern Illinois

5’11, 190lbs, rising prospect, Round 2/3.

66. Washington Redskins: Bashaud Breeland CB, Clemson

*Reports say he could go as high as Round 2.  Another big CB.

67. Oakland Raiders: Bishop Sankey RB, Washington

5’10, 200lbs. Three down back, this year’s Gio Bernard.

68. Atlanta Falcons: Christian Jones OLB/ILB/DE, Florida State

Great size/speed combo at 6’4, 230lbs, can play any LB spot and slide down to DE.  Can play in any scheme but best fit would be at OLB in the 3-4 Defense.  2^nd, 3^rd Round. He’s going higher just need to find a spot for him.  I would take him late in the 1^st Round, he’s going to be great.

69. New York Jets (via Tampa Bay): Troy Niklis TE, Norte Dame

2^nd Round, Huge 6’7, 265lb TE.  Now the #4 TE in the class.

70. Jacksonville Jaguars: Jeremy Hill RB, LSU

Top 5 RB prospect, could go as high as Round 2.  At 6’2, 225lbs, Hill combines power and speed with great vision.  Some have him as the #1 RB prospect.  This is too low for a talent like Hill, most likely mid-high round 2.

71. Cleveland Browns: Lamarcus Joyner CB/S, Florida State

Joyner (5’7”) is this year’s Honey Badger, a playmaker who lines up a Safety and nickel corner.

72. Minnesota Vikings: Shayne Skov ILB, Stanford

Top 5 ILB prospect.

73. Buffalo Bills: Paul Richardson WR, Colorado

Could go as high as the top of 2^nd round.

74. New York Giants: Jaylen Watkins CB, Florida

Smooth, great technique. Big at 6’0, 195 lbs.  Lots of talent with the Gator CB’s this year.

75. St. Louis Rams: Jimmy Garoppolo QB, Eastern Illinois

Rising QB prospect, Same school and similar size to Tony Romo. 6’2, 220lbs. Quick release, average arm.

76. Detroit Lions: Travis Swanson C, Arkansas

77. San Francisco 49ers (via Tennessee): Bryan Stork C, Florida State

78. Dallas Cowboys: Victor Hampton CB, South Carolina

79. Baltimore Ravens: James Hurst OT, North Carolina

Broken Leg in final game drops him down a bit, solid Left Tackle
